Raised in
Shelby County, Tom Shively was educated in rural Missouri. Tom's continuing to
give back to this area through hard work and leadership.
As a retired school teacher, Tom practices what he preaches.
With a policy of honest, openness, and roll-up-your-shirtsleeves hard
work, Tom has established a reputation as a leader.
"I
want to continue the solid leadership we've established in 8th District State
Representative," Shively said as he filed for re-election to continue
making a difference for Linn, most of Macon, a portion of Sullivan, and Shelby
County.
"It has been an honor to represent the people of my community for the past
year and I want to continue my work for them in Jefferson City," said
Shively. "And
the job continues."
"There have been drastic cuts to health care and education, while the truly
vulnerable of Missouri are being neglected for big-business interests. The
welfare of the people has been ignored while giving millions of taxpayer dollars
to big outside corporations.”
That's why Tom favors requiring corporations that receive state tax cut
incentives locate 80% of their new jobs in Missouri.
"Families must balance their budgets.
The state must balance its budget.
And corporations
must understand that to receive benefits in Missouri, they must produce
jobs here. Period."
It's
that kind of sensible no-nonsense vision that has made Tom an emerging leader
for rural Missouri's future.
During the first session of 2007, Shively was selected by his peers to
serve as the House Democratic Assistant Whip.
During the 2008 session Shively was elected as chairman of the Rural
Caucus and is responsible for working with other rural members formulating
policy, developing strategy and generating support for rural legislative
priorities in the House of Representatives.
Tom serves on the committees of appropriations for Agriculture, Department of
Natural Resources, and the Department of Conservation, Elementary and Secondary
Education, Special Committee on Energy and Environment, and an Interim committee
on Voice Over Internet Protocol.
Representative Shively is a 1964 graduate of North Shelby High School and earned
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture in 1968 from the University of
Missouri- Columbia . He
served in the United States Air Force attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant.
As the campaign season moves into autumn, Tom continues to walk the walk,
promoting rural values, support for rural education, and a robust rural economy.
Join with Tom in his efforts to preserve rural Missouri's values and
quality of life!
